Oily skin is a genetic skin condition that is caused by overactive sebaceous glands. Oily skin is very easy to diagnose - your skin usually gets shiny and greasy within 1-2 hours after washing it, and you are more prone to blackheads, whiteheads and acne breakouts.
Sometimes, oily skin is also caused by a skin condition called seborrehic eczeme where the sebaceous glands work overtime to make the skin super greasy on the face and scalp. But whatever the cause, oily skin is something that can be controlled. A popular method of reducing or stopping the problem is by taking Accutane (also called Roaccutane in some countries) pills, a vitamin A ( scientifically known as isotretinoin) derivative usually prescribed by dermatologists for those with moderate to severe acne.
Isotretinoin's exact mechanism of action is unknown, although it is admittedly very effective to combat the overproduction of oil by the sebaceous glands. Accutane has many side effects. Some of the more serious side effects of Accutane are:
- highly likely to cause birth defects if taken during pregnancy
- stunted growth (in those who are still growing, namely teenagers.)
- hairloss or alopecia
- relapse of acne after stopping the Accutane course
- extreme dryness of skin during the Accutane course.
Therefore it is very advisable to stop taking Roaccutane after finishing a course or after the acne problem has subsided significantly. To combat acne is to combat oily skin, and oily skin must be attacked from several different angles:
Diet
Drink plenty of water ( at least 8 glasses) , eat lots of fruits and vegetables and avoid junk food and grease like the plague. Vitamins A ( 5000 mg once a day), B2 ( 100 mg 3 times a day) and C ( 1000 mg 3 times a day) supplements are also recommended. The proper dosage varies from individual to individual so please consult your doctor or dermatologist if in doubt.
Daily Skincare Routine:
Clean with a gentle cleanser. and toner. Look for toners that does not contain alcohol or irritants like witch hazel. Every 3-4 days it is also a good idea to use a clay mask to absorb excess oil from the skin. And please do not forget to moisturize no matter how oily you think your skin is. If you do not moisturize after cleansing you skin, it will cause the sebaceous glands overproduce oil to compensate.
Daily Maintenance Routine:
A mattifying cream like Dr.Brandt's Pores No More Pore Minimizer is very good for giving you a matte complexion for 4-6 hours. Neutrogena and Smashbox also has some great mattifying creams.
Weekly Maintenance Routine:
At home Peels
This is your trump card in fighting oily skin and breakouts. At home chemical peels are a god-sent for those with problematic skins. To fight acne and oiliness, use a BHA (salicylic acid) based peel which would cut through the oil thus unclogging your pores. It would also improve skin texture and cell renewal - all good things that will improve your skin condition. For those who are allergic to BHA peels, Lactic acid would also help with exfoliation, and it has the added benefit of killing acne causing bacteria. Some of you would find alternating between different types of peels beneficial.
In Case of Breakouts:
Use products that are proven to disinfect and soothe the skin. A good acne fighting blemish cream would contain benzoyl peroxide for example Clinique Acne Solutions Emergency Gel Lotion or Clean & Clear Persa-Gel 10.
Other products that will keep the oiliness at bay:
Oil Absorbing Sheets like Clean & Clear's Oil Control Film
Oil Absorbing Loose Powder like T.Le Clerc ( the best ones are made of finely milled rice)
If you wear makeup, look for powder-based foundations, blushes and eyeshadows.

QUESTION:
Getting rid of pimples in 3 or 4 days? Clean and clear products?
I have semi formal this thurday night.. so I have about 3 or 4 days?
I'm using Clean and Clear Acne Cleanser, persa gel-5, and clean and clear double hydrant moisturizer. Do they work well?-
ANSWER:
Awe, I'm sorry! This sucks haha. The best thing to do is to let it alone, let the zits take their course and they'll be gone before you know it. Don't wash it, don't pick it, don't pop it, don't do anything to it! Try not to wear any makeup til then. I know dealing with zits are very frustrating but there are things you can do to help it diminish faster! Suck on ice cubes, I don't know why but this helps redness go down, also drink a boat load of water, as much as you can, try not to stress about it, when I stress over acne I just get more! GET SLEEP! This is soooo important, and make sure you change your pillow sheets everynight with a blemish if you can. Do not eat any junk food. No chocolate, sugars, candy, greasy foods, keep healthy! If you want, pop a little neosporin on the zit over night and all the bacteria should be eaten up by that and itll be smaller in the morning. I hope this helps!

QUESTION:
Persa-Gel 10 working fine, now dried up and irritated my skin. HELP!!!?
I have been using Persa Gel for about 5 days now. I had really bad acne on my chin that I never had before, my skin has always been mostly clear. In 2 days all my pimples started going away and I was amazed. I followed the directions and put it on 3x a day.
3 days ago my face got REALLY dry and irritated. I stopped putting it on and it was so dry and irritated that I tried putting lotion on it to re-hydrate. Its not really working, and since then I've gotten a few more pimples. I really want to continue using it but I'm scared it will continue to dry out my skin. Any suggestions?-
ANSWER:
I had that with Proactiv. I used the benzoyl peroxide only onetime per day. If your skin is still dry after that get a moisturizer that is noncomedogenic.

QUESTION:
Do I use my acne medication before or after I use toner?
I use Persa Gel 5.
I use Clean & Clear Daily Pore Toner.-
ANSWER:
Use your medication after your toner. Wait for about five minutes or so after you have applied the toner to put on the acne medication. To be honest, I don't think toners are a must and maybe aren't that great either, especially if the toner has alcohol in it. Toners often feel nice but shrink pores which just allows the pores to trap more dirt in them - leading to acne.
My advice is after washing your face put aloe vera gel on your face (all over but not too much). This will have a tightening sensation, but calms pimples down and naturally reduces redness and size. I do apply aloe vera gel at night and then use jojoba oil as a moisturizer (a few drops only).
I tried Proactive in the past with cleanser, toner and medicated acne lotion and it did work for me mostly, but I think the stuff is too harsh and probably unnecessary. I do what I listed before and take two taurine pills a day (one morningish and one at night) and I haven't been happier with my skin.
Be careful not to eat too much sugar, try to eliminate dairy, foods high in iodine (seafood) and caffeine or alcohol. I noticed when I ate those things I had skin problems without changing any routine, and there is a lot of studies/research that indicates these factors will make acne worse.
That was probably more than you wanted to hear - sorry, but those alterations will definitely help your skin!

--neutrogena acne wash redness soothing ( salicylic acid): as cleanser& scrub
--was using clindoxyl gel for couple years (prescription) for zits -works well in time on some zits

--tea tree oil on scars- dont know about it yet, been using it for awhile just not very consistent with it.if i go to the doctor pretty sure the next thing she will try is antibiotics.
THANKS SO MUCH !
-
ANSWER:
I would just use concealer to help cover them up from showing. You should try Neutrogena On the spot treatment, its works amazing! I guess your using too much products on your face and maybe one of them is not agreeing with you, the only way to find out is to use a cleanser and a treatment in other words, try using two products at a time. Maybe then you will see if its one of the product that's breaking you out.

QUESTION:
CONTINOUS ACNE TROUBLE!!!!?
I recently just bought clean and clear deep action cream cleanser and clean and clear persa-gel 5. I've been using it for about 5 days I think and I haven't seen a lot or sufficient improvement and I even broke out with two huge whiteheads. My face is decent but I want to see daily improvement, so here's what I do daily and tell me what I do wrong or suggestions:Wake up and wet my face then apply cleanser for 20-30 secs then wash off, after that I apply persa-gel 5 and then that's for the morning, and I do the same at night.
I was wondering if my diet is the problem? Also I heard that if you don't moisturize after then your face will dry up and release more oil causing you to break out more? True or not.
And finally are creams like Nivea Creme okay to use. Btw I have moderate acne
-
ANSWER:
ALWAYS use moisturizer after cleansing and toning, even if you have oily skin. Cleaning your face too much causes your skin to produce more sebum and makes you break out even more. It's so true !!! Also, your diet plays a major role in your skin condition. Water as well.Try this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e--d_n073pc

QUESTION:
Need help with my acne (mostly cheek)?
Alright, heres the deal in a nutshell. Im in grade 11, so obviously, going through puberty, meaning acne. I never had Acne, but as I started to sweat more, i got a few zits. Nothing too serious, but, now on my cheeks, I have what look to be scars of acne, but after looking at a few different pictures of acne scars, im 95% sure they're not it.They are just like red dots, but theres no lump, or puss etc, just a red blemish.
To help prevent, as much as it doesn't really work, I use two Clean & Clear products, in a Foaming Facial Clenser first, then Persa-Gel 5, with 5% BP. I'm also on prescribed Menocin, for my back, but my cheeks were already like that before using Menocin.
I've looked at things such as AcneFree and Proactiv, but the BP levels were higher on the Clean & Clear stuff.
What could I do to get rid of these annoying blemishes, if anyone even knows what they are?
-
ANSWER:
red blemish? wait is it bumpy or is it smooth yet red?because if its smooth yet red youve got post-acne marks. They occur after an imflammation of the skin and the excess pigment created by your skin during that time. Dont worry about them though because they fade away after time, but if you would like to increase theyre erasel i reccomend skin lightening creams or this new product neutrogrena came out with that actually cures acne AND deals with the post-acne marks. Face peels with glycolic acid also help.
Well hope i helped. And if thats not what youre talking about then...oh well

QUESTION:
A Question about acne medication?
I have been using Persa Gel 5 for a few days now using it twice a day and the last couple days my skin has been itching. It is really good stuff and it is working its just irritating my skin. I also wash my face twice a day with Dove sensitive skin cleanser before i put the Persa Gel on. My skin is also really sensitive. Is there anything i can do to make it stop itching like use it less or maybe my skins too sensitive for it, if so is there another acne treatment that i can use that is just as good preferably something i can buy at a drugstore or wal-mart? also i have also tried Clean and Clear advantage spot treatment, which i find does not work that well.-
ANSWER:
Firstly, Dove bars are the best way to wash your face! Most people scrub with an acne medication and it makes a mess of their skin.
You can build your skin up in its tolerance. Use the gel every other night and then every night and then 2x a day (or once a day, depending on what it says to do). The itching will stop eventually when the irriation is gone. You can buy hydrocortisone from a drug store than can help the itching, but make sure you don't use it too long on your face, it can cause thinning of the skin. Just don't put the gel on so frequently. Irritation can cause worse acne, so you've just got to be patient. Take care!

QUESTION:
what is something for acne that works?
i am going to shoppers drug mart tomorrow
i am 15
have breakouts often
have combination skin
what is a good product to buy?i am currently using
clean and clears continuous control with 5 percent benzol peroxide
and persa 5 gel
no complaints
how is salicyal acid?
basic advise and products plz-
ANSWER:
I use Clearasil Rapid Action pads once or twice a day, and they're great! My zits get much smaller and a lot less noticeable in a very short time period and are gone completely within a day or two. I even got my fiance to use them.As for the salicylic acid, that's what's in these pads; it's the best acne product I have ever found that has salicylic acid in it. Benzoyl peroxide is supposed to be the stronger of the two medicines, but I'm allergic to it (it turns me into a strawberry) so I can only use products with salicylic acid in it.

QUESTION:
Cleanser/moisturizer for moderately acne-prone skin?
I get breakouts quite often, ranging from a few big ones to just a few small ones, and generally almost always have a few pimples on my face. I also have blackheads (they're light but still a bit noticeable) and some scarring from pimples. And large-ish pores on my nose and parts of the cheek right next to the nose.I currently use Neutrogena's Acne Stress Control Power-Foam Wash (it's green-colored) with 0.5% salicylic acid and Clean&Clear's Persa-Gel 10 acne medication, with 10% benzoyl peroxide. Occasionally, I also use St. Ives Apricot Scrub (Blemish & Blackhead Control; 2% salicylic acid) to exfoliate. Daily, after cleansing with the Neutrogena, I apply Olay Complete SPF 15 moisture lotion in the morning and Olay active hydrating beauty fluid at night.
Both Olay lotions claim to be non-comedogenic (they won't clog pores) and moisturize my face well enough.
I've used all listed products for more than six months. In fact, some have been used for years. I am viligent in using them (wash face twice a day, moisturize afterwards) and have kept to the exact same products. They're all right, but not helping with my acne.
As I said, I have moderate acne, and am looking for a new cleanser and moisturizer that will better help with my skin. I have "normal/combination" skin type: my cheeks are normal/a little dry, and my T-zone is a bit oily.
Can you recommend any GENTLE, more "natural" products that you think may help? I've heard about Cetaphil, but am not sure if it will help with moderate acne/combination-oily skin type. I can only get drugstore brands, preferably around or less (though I will invest in a pricier one if it's good).
So I'm looking for a cleanser, moisturizer, and acne medication product. An exfoliator too, I guess. Whatever works for you and helps with your acne (prevents it/gets rid of it/helps with scarring). Thank you!
-
ANSWER:
I have moderately acne prone skin, but I use a simple regiment to fight it.Try a cleanser to clean and tone your skin morning and night (I use Sea Breeze Sensitive Formula) followed up by a moisturizer (I use Alba Sea Moss Moisturizer). Every three or four days try a facial mask to extract impurities (I use the Alba Deep Sea Facial Mask) Every other day, exfoliate your skin to gently remove dry skin (I use St. Ive's Apricot Scrub in the shower.) Before I go to sleep, I rub in some Clearasil on blemishes or problem areas. My skin isn't 100% perfect, but it has a healthy glow and very few zits.

QUESTION:
Using only water to wash face? NO CLEANSERS NO BENZOYL PEROXIDE?
I'm fifteen and been using Spectro Jel, Clean and Clear Persa Gel 5 and Cetaphil Moisturizer. QUESTION:
Can I use these two products together? (READ DETAILS)?
in the morning could I use clean&clear advantage acne spot treatment, and then at night can i use clean&clear persa-gel 5?Or should I just stick to one?
-
ANSWER:
I would not use either. Just wash your face daily in luke-warm water. Try Dove soap. Many of the facial creams have harsh chemicals that do more damage than good. Things that are 'mixed' can become more harmful. Makeup actually isn't all that good for your skin. In fact, that may be the cause of the acne if you are a female. In fact, there was recently a recall on some acne creams because they did cause severe reactions to a number of users.

QUESTION:
Im TIREDof my SKIN!! Help me.?
Cetaphil Gentle Cleaner, then applying Persa Gel 5, then using Clean and Clear Dual Action Moisturizer. Problem is my face has alot of acne dark spots (Im black, so its really dark spots) but, also I think sun damaged skin. When I was younger, I had smoother, normal skin. I think it was because when I was like 12/13 I used to swim outside in pools on Hot Days and then lay out in the sun. NO SUNSCREEN. I noticed some areas of my body like chest are lighter and there is a three shade difference of skin colour on my back area.. Even my parents told me I had gotten dark, but I wish I could just go back and change everything I did then. I have dry skin with acne and dark spots. Its what I call the triple-low confidence factor.Questions:
* Acne has gotten about 45% better, but I still frequently get pimples on cheeks and other areas. Some just dont go away until I have to pop them. I had previously used Clean and Clear but I thought I might of irritated my skin, and so I use Cetaphil now.
* My moisturizer doesn't help me at all because I have to apply a lot and it still ends up getting dry on my skin. I'm thinking of using Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion or Cream; either one but is there a difference between Lotion and Cream? and do they include sunscreen in the moisturizer?
* Is 5% BP too much, or should I use that much?
I'm thinking of getting Neutrogena Spot Treatment (2.5%)* I also want to get a product to reduce dark spots such as Fair&White Bleaching Gel, is that okay for my skin or any hazards?

ANSWER:
I used to have horrible acne. Nothing worked for me, I tried ProActive, AcneFree, Murad, and tons of grocery store brands. What did the trick for me was: Changing my diet. I quit drinking soda, ate less sugar and fat, and drank only water. I use Origins Plantidote skin care line, which ahs also made a difference. When you cleanse, use lukewarm water (not hotter than your skin, but doesn't have to be cold). Don't scrub. Exfoliate only 2-3 times per week, and moisturize. What people with oily skin don't realize is that denying the moisturizer, their face over produces oil and sebum to compensate for the missing moisture. Moisturizing will actually decrease oil production.
Exercise. Honestly, exercising helps your body USE the anti-oxidents. It will give your skin a healthy glow, and even force you to drink the extra water!
Keep your hands off your face. Wash morning and night, keep your pillowcase clean (where a lot of people get acne from, not realizing the dirt on their pillowcase), wash your hands often if you have a habit of touching your face.
Hope this helps!

QUESTION:
Get rid of Acne in a weeks time..?
I'm going to a party Saturday night, and i know it's going to be a blast none-the-less, but i have a few pimples on my face that i would love to ditch before then.
At times, im either acne free, have 1-2, or 5+ pimples (i have around that much now)
Ordinarially i use "Clean & Clear Maximum Strength PERSA-GEL 10", which worked VERY well for a good 2 weeks, but now it seems to be wearing off, as even though i use it, i still get pimples.
I wash my face very often, (should i use soap? Or just water, because ordinarily i use soap but i heard its not great), and take showers everyday. I do not eat very much greasy food, if any at all, and i drink sufficient water.
Are there any suggestions anyone has on how to reduce a few pimples (and to not get new ones) in a weeks time? Should i continue the use of the gel? Or not. Water + soap? Or just water.
I really want to be confident = Help?
Thanks

Wash your face twice a day with warm water and a good face wash.
You can buy good face washes just about anywhere, they're not too exspensive.
I recommend a wash with salicylic acid. It will work just fine with less irritation.
* Benzoyl Peroxide is also effective at treating acne, but in my experience it causes a lot of dryness and redness. After you wash, make sure you moisturize your skin within 5 minutes.
* It's important to use a non-comedogenic lotion. These kind of lotions do not irritate the skin.
* Keeping your face moisturized will reduce dryness and your face will be less oily. It's very important.Never touch your face or pop your pimples. Popping them will only make them worse, and they'll spread.
If you must pop them, wipe your face immediately after with alcohol. This will kill the bacteria so they won't spread.
* Alcohol will dry your face out really fast so I wouldn't do this very often.*Lemon Juice is used as a homeopathic treatment for acne. Lemon juice also contains one of the AHAs or Alpha Hydroxy Acids and can be used to slough off dead skin, promoting skin elasticity, and enabling new skin cell growth rise from underneath.
Keep your pillow cases clean. Wash them often. Once a week if possible.
This isn't a one time thing, you have to continue this over time to see a difference. Once you get in the routine it will become natural and your face will be flawless!
*** Products I use..
1.) Clean&Clear - Advantage (3 in 1 foaming face wash)
2.) Clean&Clear Advantage ( Acne control moisturizer)
3.) CeraVe moisturizing face wash and lotion
4.) Neutrogena ( On The Spot)
5.) Stridex pads (Sensitive)- I use 1 in the shower, and sometimes before bed.
- I use 2 before bed on most night.
- I use 3 in the morning to make my face look nice. The lotion won't make your face look oily.
- I use 4 when I see a breakout starting.
- I use 5 when I get home from school, and randomly when I feel like my face is dirty.

QUESTION:
What facewash? What type of acne?
Hello! I am 14 and somethimes get acne. I usually have at least one pimple but now I have 5. I have one on the very top right of my forehead, directly to the right of my nostril, diagonally down to the left from my mouth and 2 on my Chin. I get them on my chin more often then anywhere else. On my Chin I have these TINY white bumps that are visible when I straighten my chin out. After a while they get really big and red. They stay under the skin and go away but are difficult. The one on my cheek is small but red and inflamed around it. I don't know how to get rid of it. Same for the ones by my nose and forehead. Do you know what acne I have?? What is a blackhed? What cleansers do you recommend. I am currently using the nutrogena gentle scrub and at first it was awesome but is slowly stopped working. The bottle is empty so I'm not sure what kind to get. I dont like gentle foaming cleansers or gentle washes, I feel like they don't do much. I need good face lotion too. Is there a good cash wash for everyday, with lotion of same brand and a scrub/exfoliant to use every 2 days?? Clearasil daily wash doesn't work for me, it makes me break out worse. I know the foil/ice trick, the toothpaste one, honey, and home remedies. What spot treatments do you recommend? I use clean and clear persa gel but it isn't really that good. I like reasonable prices. Thanks for your help!! Sorry this was sooo long

ANSWER:
I think you have pretty simple acne, which is definatly good and if you kick it now, you should be done with it soon!Clean start by dermalogica is targeted towards teenagers, their starting kit ( only 45 dollars at Sephora) includes 5 items
-foaming cleanser
-toner
-exfoliater
-moisturizer
-night time treatmentSo basically you have a gentle facce wash, a toner to pick up anything the cleanser left, exfoliate to rid of the dead cells and what not, the needed moisturizer ( includes SPF!) and a night time treatment to kick stubborn pimples while you sleep. It really is reasonable if you think of the brand, what youre getting!
Also a black head is the same as a white head, but has undergone oxidization. Which is a chemical reaction when something comes in contact with oxygen. Don't believe when people say its dirt under your skin.
Also a great tip is organic yogurt! Plain! Put it on your skin for 30 min as a mask, rinse if off! It will get rid of inflammation, moisturize, sooth, fight bacteria....works wonders!

QUESTION:
Acne problem...Should I see a dermatologist?
I'm 26 years of age and have been fighting acne for over 10 years now. When I was younger it was pretty bad, now that I am older I generally have around 1-5 pimples on any given day and that is it: get them, they clear up, new ones form. I have tried many different over the counter products ranging from cheap stuff at Wal-Mart to expensive Murad and nothing has seemed to really work for me. I keep saying I am going to call the derm. but I keep talking myself out of it saying that if I look on the internet long enough, I'll find something that will work. Any suggestions on what might work? Should I just go to dermatologist? I have very oily skin, I currently use Clean and Clear face wash with 10% benzoyl peroxide and then apply Clean and Clear Persa-Gel 10% benzoyl peroxide. Even after all of that benzoyl peroxide, my face starts to become oily again after 10 minutes. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Forgot to add that I have cut out most bad things in my diet and I only drink water, probably closing in on 2 gallons a day on average.-

QUESTION:
Is 10% Benzoyl Peroxide (acne medication) sold in Canada?
I want to purchase Clean & Clear Persa Gel 10... but I've heard that 10% benzoyl peroxide is not sold in Canada and that the highest dosage sold is 5%. Is this true?-
ANSWER:
you don't need 10%You don't even need 5%
Just wash your face with a good liquid soap before you go to bed. Washing your face should make your arms hurt. I am serious, it is a workout. Take two hands to cup the water, splash it on your face like and rub the water all over your face. Then take a large dab of liquid soap, rub hands together lightly and rub your face with the same motion as rinsing with water. Now, wash the soap off. If you do this eveny night, you will not need the expensive acne medications. Now, it is imporant to build a habit of waching your face before you go to bed. I don't care how tired you are. If you don't all of the dirt in the air that has collected on your skin all day will clog the pores of your face, and you will be covered in zits before you know it. Washing your face at night and rinsing regularly in the morning with clean hands and water will make significant changes in your social life without wasting your time or money.

QUESTION:
Why won't my acne go away!? I've tried everything!?
I'm a 15 year old girl and I've been suffering from acne since I was 13. My acne isn't horrible but I get about 5-10 at a time and I can't get rid of them. I have super sensitive skin and I get it all over my face but only my nose and forehead are oily. I've used everything from ProActive, Neutrogena Oil-Free Wash and wipes, Clean&Clear Persa-Gels, I even went to my dermatologist and I used a Benzoyl Peroxide 4% for about a year plus a cream and nothing happened. I mean, I have a pretty good diet, I eat lots of fruits, no fried foods, no sugary drinks. Maybe it's because I only get 6-7 hours of sleep? School is really stressful to me and i'm usually never relaxed. What could be the problem? I wash my face twice a day and right now i'm using the Neutrogena Oil Free Wash.
Also, I recently bought the Clean&Clear Blackhead Eraser and I'm not sure that's gonna work. Is there something out there that will cure my pimples completely? Someone please help me! Thank you so much!-
ANSWER:
ya jus read your info .. firstly dont stress your self .. be calm .. you are in your teenage ...stress also cause the production of hormones, such as cortisol, which can aggravate acne. Stress brings upon different hormone levels. With hormone changes the body prompts the skins oil glands to enlarge, secreting more oil. Which causes white heads, black heads and pimples.

QUESTION:
Which acne medication is better?
I went to my dermatologist and was prescribed acanya-gel and atralin.I read on the acanya thing that its 1.2% clindamycin phosphate and 2.5% benzoyl peroxide.
I used to use this thing "Clean and Clear Persa-Gel 10" which has 10% benzoyl peroxide.Does that mean the acanya thing is weaker? or is the phosphate ingredient the main medication?
Could I possibly get an answer to the question I asked? or am I just going to keep getting random links to acne "info" sites which will eventually lead me to some products order form?-
ANSWER:
If your skin is oily in general, and you also have problems with your hair becoming thin, you might consider checking out your acid-base-balance. You can influence it positively by eating more basic (the good old veggies!) and less sour (flour, fat, meat, milk-products).

QUESTION:
is this a good skin care routine for 13 year old with acne?
i have whitehead all over my forehead
blackhead on the nose
and pimples on my cheek
ok would my skincare routine be too strong for Me??
Morning- wash with aveeno clear complexion foam wash. 0.5% salicylic acid
then use olay complete moisturizer with Spf 15.
Night- wash with aveeno clear complexion foam wash again and the use clean and clear persa gel 10% benzoyl perxoide and after that use olay complete moisturizer.
if this is too strong then what should i use to clear up my ance thank for all the help.-
ANSWER:
Aveeno does have good products - here are some tips that would be excellent for youLimit washing to twice a day – and after perspiring. Once in the morning and once at night as well as after perspiring heavily should be the limit. Perspiration, especially when wearing a hat or helmet, can make acne worse, so the skin should be gently cleansed as quickly as possible after perspiring.
Use a gentle, non-abrasive cleanser. Wash the face and other acne-prone areas with a gentle, non-abrasive cleanser that does not contain alcohol.
Use your fingertips. Apply the cleanser and wash with your fingertips. This reduces skin irritation. Using a washcloth, mesh sponge, or anything else can irritate the skin and lead to breakouts.
Never scrub the skin. Scrubbing the skin clean does not clear acne. In fact, scrubbing irritates the skin and can make acne worse.
Rinse with lukewarm water. Be sure to thoroughly rinse away the cleanser with lukewarm, not hot, water.
Shampoo regularly. If you have oily hair, shampoo daily.
Avoid Acne Skin Care Taboos
Astringents, rubbing alcohol, and tanning do not help clear acne nor keep acne-prone skin free from blemishes. Dermatologists recommend that their patients with acne and acne-prone skin avoid the following:Astringents, exfoliators, masks, and toners. These products do not help clear acne. In fact, these can aggravate the skin and make acne worse. These products also may make it more difficult to tolerate prescription acne medications, so it is best not to use these when treating acne.
Greasy hair-care products. Oily hair-care products, such as oil-containing gels and pomades, can drip onto the skin and clog pores. This can cause acne.
Picking, popping, and squeezing pimples. People pick and pop pimples to get rid of them quickly. The truth is this prolongs healing time and increases the risk of scarring.
Rubbing alcohol. Some people apply rubbing alcohol in order to dry out the oily skin. This will not help clear acne nor prevent breakouts. It can irritate the skin and cause breakouts.
Tanning. Some people claim that their acne clears with sun exposure. The truth is that tanning does not clear acne. Tanning, however, does increase one’s risk of developing melanoma and other skin cancers.

QUESTION:
Do I do too much for my face?
I do this about twice a day..im only 13 and im really dedicated to get rid of acne...this is what i do everyday
1. wash my face wit cetaphil
2.ice my zits for 10 mins
3.wash my face with clearasil (for marks and stuff)
4. put honey mixed with sugar on my face for about 30 mins
5.wash it off
6.apply persa gel 10
7.look in the mirror and see how horrible my acne iss
((....is that alot, am i doing anything bad
BQ: do you know any good foundation for acne prone skin, that will cover evrything up and will NOT look cakey?
-
ANSWER:
First, I suggest you don't use cetaphil...I used it and it was just a waste of time and money. There are 4 things I can advise you though, that helped me get rid of all my acne (I had it everywhere; on my forehead , cheeks, chin, chest, back...god...).
1) Use a mild version of PanOxyl (Antibacterial Acne Aquagel) OR Benzac5, which you can find at any pharmacy shelf. These 2 work very well and they are gentle on your skin.
2) Make a mago face mask. Scoop out the pulp, and smear it on your face for 10-15 minutes. Mangoes are widely known to unclog pores and get rid of acne. (Eating them also helps, as they have many vitamins that help clear the skin).
3) Lay off sugar and dairy. Both of these cause an upsurge in hormone imbalance, which triggers overproduction of sebum oil, which results in more acne. I would suggest you also avoid processed foods, caffeine, and alcohol.
4) Use avocado oil (virgin, cold pressed) as your moisturizer. It's very good for your skin, absorbs fast (you can wear it before you go out), and fights sun damage, acne, scars, etc. I suggest this because apart from being effective, it's 100% natural. Many products (that you probably also use) are not very good for your skin, and can actually be clogging your pores and damaging your face in the long run. There is also a chance that you may have some food allergies, as acne is sometimes the sign of this. Get an allergy test done just in case.
Make sure to try all these 4 things out on a daily basis (try not to pick and choose, as one treatment by itself is never as efefctive as if it were partnered with another).
Also, don't clog you pores with any other products, like makeup, lotions, or perfumes. A lot of these serve as culprits too.

QUESTION:
Ditch Pimples in a week?
Thanks

QUESTION:
Good Skincare Routine? (20 characters)?
So, I got a few new things to try out for my skin. I have acne, and oily skin. Soo, I'm not sure if this is going to be strong enough for my acne. But here it is:
Morning Routine:
Clean and Clear Morning Burst Shine Control Facial Cleanser
Clean and Clear Persa Gel 10 (10 % benzoyl peroxide spot treatment)
Seriously shine free moisturizer
Night Routine:
Oil Free Acne Wash Pink Grapfruit Cleanser (neutrogena) (2% salicylic acid)
Clean and Clear Persa Gel 10 (10 % benzoyl peroxide spot treatment)
Seriously shine free moisturizerTwice a week i will be using Clean and Clear 3 in 1 exfoliating cleanser (5% benzoyl peroxide)
Does this sound good, or do u think this will be to gentle for it?? I'm 13 years old.
-
ANSWER:
sounds alright but one of the best spot creams i have used is valderma antibacterial treatment for spots and pimples try using that every night and don't use the same finger to put the spot cream on different spots on your face it spreads the acne even more so use diffrent fingers considering that you are only 13 years old all the products and chemical going onto your skin could end up striping the skin of its natural oils so i suggest you use Amie skincare http://www.amieskincare.com/ hope that helped

QUESTION:
Help me Decide a good face wash routine?
These are allll the products i have currently:1. Neutrogena Pink grapefruit oil-free acne scrub
2. Neutrogena pink grapefruit oil-free cream cleanser
3. Neutrogena pink grapefruit oil-free cleanser (not creamy)
4. Clean and Clear deep cleaning astringent
5. Clean and Clear Pore perfecting moisturizer (mornings)
6. Clean and clear persa-gel-10
7. Neutrogena wave with the oil free blemish free (orange colored) Pads on it
8. Soap?
9. I usually use an exfoliating wash cloth in the morning and my hands at night
10. Nivea refreshingly soft moisturizing cremePlease note, I am not using all of these at once XD omg oww o.o this is just all i have in my possession
Im not sure what moisturizer to use at night or if the Nivea one is supposed to be used on the face, i tend to have dry skin on my chin
. I have (what i believe to be is) Combination skin, if not then normal. On of those lol. Right now in the mornings i use the Wave, then the none creamy cleanser (neutrogena) with the exfoliating wash cloth then i use the pore perfecting moisturizer. And at night id use the wave again and then the same cleanser without the cloth, then the persa gel.I also do an egg 'facial' thing once a week. The thing with the egg whites and the yolks ^^
Please help?
-
ANSWER:
Wash: Pick ONE of your Neutrogena face washes for morning and get a GENTLE cleanser for the nighttime, like Cetaphil face wash.Tone: Your Clean and Clear deep cleaning astringent is fine. Take a cotton ball, put some astringent on it and sweep it across your face.
Moisturize: All you need is one moisturizer and you can use your pore perfecting one or the Nivea one.
Exfoliate: Use an exfoliating scrub ONCE a week like St. Ives Apricot Scrub. Or you could just get an exfoliating sponge and lightly scrub with your regular face wash.
Mask: The egg mask is great! Keep doing that,
Treatment: The persa gel is for any surprise breakouts, but I'm sure you know that already
I think you should toss the Wave also.
Hope I helped!
